Brow Sugar's approach to previous permanent makeup work

Permanent makeup, particularly for eyebrows, is a delicate art that requires precision, expertise, and an understanding of each client’s unique facial structure and skin type. At Brow Sugar Permanent Makeup Studio, our priority is to ensure that every client receives the best possible results. However, there are instances where we may be unable to touch up or correct previous work done by another artist. Here are the primary reasons why:

1. Quality and Technique Differences

Every artist has their own style and technique when it comes to permanent makeup. The pigments used, the depth of needle penetration, and the overall method can vary significantly. If the previous work was done using different techniques or substandard quality, it might be challenging for us to ensure a cohesive and high-quality result.

2. Color Correction Challenges

Permanent makeup pigments can change color over time due to various factors such as sun exposure, skin type, and the original pigment used. If the existing eyebrow tattoos have turned into unwanted hues (e.g., blue, green, or red), correcting these colors can be complex. Without removing or significantly fading the previous work, achieving a natural and desired color outcome can be problematic.

3. Skin Condition and Health

The condition of the skin is a crucial factor in permanent makeup. If the skin has undergone scarring, overworking, or other damage from previous treatments, it may not be suitable for additional work. Compromised skin can affect pigment retention and the healing process, leading to unsatisfactory results.

4. Design and Symmetry Issues

Achieving symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing eyebrows is fundamental to permanent makeup. If the existing work is asymmetrical or poorly designed, it can be challenging to correct without starting from scratch. Overly thick, misshapen, or uneven brows may require significant redesign, which is not always possible with touch-ups alone.

5. Pigment Saturation Levels

If the previous work has very high pigment saturation, it might be difficult to overlay new pigment effectively. Highly saturated pigments can block new pigments from adhering properly, leading to patchy or uneven results. In such cases, lightening or removal sessions may be necessary before any new work can be done.

6. Client Expectations and Satisfaction

Ensuring client satisfaction is paramount. If the existing work does not align with the client's expectations or if the client desires a significantly different look, it might be best to start fresh. This approach allows for a tailored design that meets the client’s specific needs and avoids the limitations imposed by previous work.

7. Compatibility of Products

Different artists use various brands and types of pigments, machines, and needles. The compatibility of these products with what we use at Brow Sugar can affect the final outcome. Using incompatible products can lead to unpredictable results and possible complications during the procedure and healing process.

Touching up someone else's work isn't as simple as it sounds. Brow Sugar must first thoroughly assess the existing makeup to understand its quality, color, shape, and how it has aged. The previous work needs to be faded by at least 70% to achieve proper implantation of pigment and desired results. With all the unknown factors that come with previous work from another artist such as needle type and size, depth and pressure used with the needle, pigment type and color, and design and symmetry it takes time and precise planning to touchup someone else's work. The thought, planning and time we give to this process is the reason why we charge previous work just the same as we charge a new client for microblading or shading.

At Brow Sugar Permanent Makeup Studio, our commitment is to provide the highest standard of service and results to our clients. While we understand the desire to touch up or correct previous work, the above factors often necessitate a more cautious approach. In many cases, starting fresh allows us to deliver the beautiful, natural-looking eyebrows our clients desire. If you have previous permanent makeup and are considering a touch-up, we recommend scheduling a consultation to discuss your options and determine the best path forward.

Thank you for understanding our commitment to excellence and the reasons behind our policies. Your satisfaction and safety are our top priorities, and we look forward to helping you achieve your ideal look.
